Understanding educational policy and law is very important to ensure that every student's rights are being upheld by the school. Two major components of educational law that school leaders need to know are the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These laws codify the rights of students with disabilities and the expectations from schools to serve these students.

The Policy and Law competency is an area that I need continued growth in. I have only briefly touched on policy and case law through ED 793, ED 636, and ED 631. I am also lacking in terms of practical experience. The limited experience that I have is through my time as a union co-president with a harassment situation involving a member of the union.

ED 695B: Comprehensive Questions

ED 793: IDEA and 504 Plans

ED 793: Least Restrictive Environment
